Recently I bought Jet's JBOS-5 spindle sander during an Amazon sale to replace an old Craftsman spindle sander. The Jet is a great machine but the dust collection above the table is not so great. I could feel quite a bit of air movement below the table but with the wide open front not much of that made it above the table. So I built a wooden insert to block the majority of the air flow. Here's a side and frontal view.
Just some scrap 1/4" baltic birch I had laying around. Installed it looks
like this:
Now add some black paint and its ready to go. It fits well enough there's
nothing extra holding it on. The improvement to the above the table dust collection
is significant. I don't see hardly any dust left above the table with the insert
in place, and there is quite a bit left on the table without it.
