Delta DJ-20 Shelix head installation

Picked up a Shelix head from holbren.com for my DJ-20 jointer recently. It doesn't come with any instructions, so I'm on my own on how to install it. Jointers are pretty simple machines.

The Shelix head arrives well packed in its own little crate:

A bunch of screws hold the top on. Take them off and you see:

Off to take the jointer apart. First things first, unplug the jointer.

Loosen the screw that holds the guard spring and move the fence out of the way.

Now move the tables down.

Take out the screws that secure the blocks holding the bearings in place.

Loosen up the motor so that I can easily remove the belt. Probably could have wiggled the belt off without doing this, but it wasn't hard. Good thing I checked though the set screw holding the pulley to the motor was loose.

Take off the belt cover in back of the jointer.

Remove the rabbeting ledge so that I can get a handle on the bearing block.

Pry loose the block.

Have a bit of saw dust collecting in there.

Old head is off. Probably should have taken the pulley off while it was still on the jointer. Oh well live and learn. I'll just use the belt to hold the pulley while I loosen the bolt.

Pulley is off.

One block off. This one I was just able to wiggle off.

This side is pressed on. It'll have to wait until this weekend to remove it.

Back from getting the bearing switched over. The head is now ready to install.

First thing is to install the pulley.

Then carefully place the head back in the jointer.

Now start to reassemble the parts and pieces. Just put things back the way they came off. Pretty soon the pointer is back together and ready for adjustment.

I found that the Shelix head is a bit bigger in diameter than the stock head, so adjusting the infeed and outfeed tables is required.

I think If I had to do this on another DJ-20 and I had a bearing puller on hand I could get it installed in less than an hour.
